Boating On the Potomac

Last Saturday, we went boating on the Potomac River. Our friends, Casey and Susan, have a membership at a boating club so they invited us out last weekend. It was an absolute blast...probably one of our best days since we've been in DC!This is a slideshow of all of the photos that I took...a lot! There are so many amazing views of the city that I just couldn't stop snapping!

1st Haircut!!

One day last week, while Lindsey was here, we went to Tyson's Corner mall. They have a great kid's play area that has the cutest little things to play and climb on. Plus, they have this train that you can take rides on with the kids. It's a great option when you need indoor play for a hot, rainy or frigid day! But this mall also has a Cartoon Cuts for kids so while we were there, I thought I might as well do what I've dreaded for months now...the first hair cut. Brad and I have been discussing getting it cut for weeks because his hair was getting so long on top and becoming really difficult to manage. We always swore that we would never cut his hair but it just became real to us that we would have to. We kept thinking that with length and time, it would weigh the curl down but it just got even crazier and hard to comb through. So, I did it and it was very hard for me to watch. I wasn't ready for him to be transformed into a little boy just yet so I made it very clear to keep the length and the curls but those curls aren't going anywhere...he'll have curls forever I'm sure. I totally teared up and wanted to back out but in the end, we were both really happy we did it. I'm thinking of doing it myself next time though! Thanks to Lindsey for taking most of the pics!

Before shot - He's so cute. This was a calm hair day which made cutting it even harder!

Watching Dora while he gets ready.

The stylist wets his long locks.

I love that face!

Not sure what he's doing here.

Getting his bangs cut first.

The store - It's a cute little shop. They let the kids watch videos while they get their hair cut.

First snip off the back! Look at how long his hair is when pulled down! If he were a girl, he would so have pig tails!

Looking a bit anxious here. Baker actually did really well during the whole thing but he did get very squirmy in the end. I thought for sure he would scream during the whole thing but he proved me wrong...

But he did cry at the end! He was tired of being confined and having his arms pinned down!

After - Our handsome little boy!
Prior to the haircut - We played in the play area to burn off some energy. It was interesting to see him play in here because the last time I brought him to this area was when he was about 8 months old and he couldn't do anything. Not this time...he was all over the place!

He loved this big bear.

Lindsey helps him go down the slide. Baker insists on going down any slide backwards!

Lindsey Comes to Visit!

After our trip to NC week before last, my 12 year old niece Lindsey decided to come back to DC with us. I had mentioned that I would probably brave it out and drive back to NC this past week while Brad was in LA for work. So, knowing that I would be coming back, Lindsey thought it would be fun to stay with us for the week! We were shocked that she wanted to come so far away for that long but thrilled. Brad had to work the whole week and spent a few days in NYC but we had a great time venturing out anyway. It was nice for me because I had an extra set of hands for a busy week. I got spoiled with that!! She is a great help and Baker loves her, so we had an awesome time! The pictures below are pretty much a compilation from our week.

Baker likes to put his sunglasses on. I thought it was funny that he even continued to play with them on...cool dude!

At our MOPS playdate at Sara Beth's house - Hartford and Baker enjoyed some time in the pool. Baker isn't too fond of getting splashed in the face, so he wouldn't even attempt stepping his tiny toe in the water until the bigger boys got out! Once he finally did, he and Lindsey spent at least 30 minutes in there and had a blast!

Baker and Caroline on their first date. Hehe! Isn't she a doll?

One afternoon, we went to the Capitol Building. Lindsey had never been so close to it and thought it was pretty amazing.

They have a new cafe in there to eat at so after Lindsey bought some souvenirs at the gift shop, we ate lunch there. Baker looked like such a big boy sitting in a chair eating his mac 'n cheese, until I found a high chair at least!

In front of the Supreme Court.

At our MOPS playdate at Upton Regional Park - Noah and Baker enjoyed some down time from the pool and lunch.

This park is amazing! They have three pools - lap pool, a zero entry kiddie pool, and a huge pool for the older kids plus 2 water slides, a splash area, a putt-putt course, and a batting cage. Baker was enamored with the little water fountains that came up around the entry of the kiddie pool!

Lindsey lived on the water slides! She must have gone up and down them at least 20 times!

Mommy and her little man

Lindsey at the top of the slides!

Still playing with the squirting water.

The kiddie pool was next to the slides so Baker kept running to the fence to find Lindsey...sweet.

Having SO much fun!

Baker was playing so well around the edge of the pool for a while but I took him further into it when he got splashed in the face and it pretty much set him over the edge. So, for about 30 minutes, he was freaking out in the pool and didn't want to leave my side. I left for about 15 minutes to go down the slides with Lindsey while friends held and played with him. Once we ate lunch, he must have gained his confidence back because he slowly got into the water on his own! I was so proud! I feel like all summer long, he's been so unsure of water so this moment was exciting for me! The kiddie pool is really small so I sat on the edge to see if he would walk through the water to get to me and sure enough, he did! My brave little man!
Lindsey and Baker

Later that day - I love that Lindsey wanted to put his monkey slippers on with his outfit....it's too cute to me!

Enjoying some mashed potatoes, only more ended up on his face, hands
and bib than in his mouth!

Lindsey teaches Baker how to play with the shape sorter. She would point to the right hole and he would put the shape in. He would get really excited and bounce up and down when he got it right. She's a great teacher!

Summer Visit to NC
Last week, we made the trip down to NC to visit my family. We hadn't been since Thanksgiving, which was way too long, so we had lots to catch up on. Baker has changed a lot since then so it was great to see him interact with our niece and nephews. He really held his own with the boys and did his best to keep up with them. We had an awesome time, as we always do! Actually, Lindsey, our 12 year old niece, came back with us to DC and has been with us for the week. I'm taking her back tomorrow and I'll spend another week there while Brad is in LA...bittersweet trip.

On the trip down, we stopped at one of our least favorite places, McDonalds, for a fast breakfast. Baker got his very first Happy Meal and was thrilled with the panda bear he got in the bag!

Shannon's sister, Mandy, brought Avery over for a little play time with Baker. They were funny together and had the battle of the strollers!

Drew squeezes a hug out of Baker.

Seth takes a sweet walk with Baker in the backyard.

Then they went for a drive in the Jeep. Wow, cruising already at 18 months.

Avery thought she would give the boys a push in the Jeep since it was going so slow! For some reason, Baker insisted on sitting in the floor.

Seth then took Avery for a ride. I love his wave here...he looks so cool.

Bleeker was so exhausted after a few days of running free in their backyard!

Uncle Brad went for a bike ride with Ben and Drew around the neighborhood.

Shannon made one of my favorite meals for dinner one night...chicken pastry! It's been my favorite since I was a kid. This is Baker's first taste of it and he seemed to like it too but I think he got more of it on his fingers and face than in his mouth.

Papaw (my dad) and Baker - going for a round of golf.

Learning at a young age!

Like father like son. I thought it was funny when I looked at my dad and brother and saw them standing the same way, wearing almost identical outfits!

My dad, the golfer takes a swing in the backyard...four!!

Brian, me and daddy - only thing missing is mama.

Baker loved when Brad took him for a ride on the big boy bike!

He just couldn't get enough of all of the big boy toys outside - the scooter, the bikes, the golf clubs. What's a toddler to do?

Drew riding a bike without training wheels!!

Baker looks as if he is pleading with Ben to let him ride on his scooter! Ben would make the scooter hop...

then Baker attempted it with Lindsey's help.

Getting awfully close to Nestle for a kiss. He is not afraid of animals at all! I think he was just shocked that she allowed him to get so close because Bleeker darts the second Baker gets remotely close to him.

We all went for a swim at the pool on Friday.

Baker playing with pool toys. He is still a bit unsure of getting in water, unless it's the bath. He tries to climb out of it constantly. I'm hoping next year he'll feel more confident.

On Friday night, the boys had a soccer scrimmage to play in at their church so we all went to watch. They were so cute out there playing!
How cool of a picture is this?! I love that they are all in action. Seth is in green on the left, Ben is in the middle in blue, and Drew is in navy on the right.

Baker with his Papaw, itching to get on the field!

Little Beckham - I love this picture!

He finally got the chance to run the field when he game was over!

We spent a good portion of the time out on the playground. Baker had a blast out there!

Papaw was acting like he was going to get him and Baker just laughed!

Going down the big slide!

Our new little puppy. Baker loved Bleeker's little dog house that he slept in at their house.
He always climbed in it to play.

Uncle Brian and Baker

At Papaw and Mamaw's house, Baker was in awe of all the model cars. My dad's house is a like toyland for little boys - cars, trucks, guitars, cowboys and horses.

The kids had a blast with the cars and airplanes that Papaw gave them.

Later, back at Brian and Shannon's house, some of us were outside and Baker had the most pitiful face, wanting to join us. We were getting the popsicles ready for the kids to eat, so of course, he joined us!

Baker runs naked free with his popsicle. It's as if he was afraid we were going to take it away from him! Naked is the only way to dress him when eating something so messy!

The kids enjoy the popsicles out back!

How cute is he eating his 1st popsicle? He devoured that thing!

Our pretty boy
Video: A few weeks back, I posted a video of Baker saying "no, no, no". Well, he has since mastered the art of answering "no" for every single question you ask him, even if the answer should obviously be "yes". He actually started this while we were in NC and the family got a real kick out of it. At first, we thought it was really cute but now it's getting a bit old. We have got to teach him how to answer "yes"! This video shows Baker having his snack and then Brian and Shannon started asking him questions. He was cracking us up...I think it's his tone when saying it. Enjoy!
