This Week's Stories

This past week was the introduction of a few different things in the Blackmon home. One, Baker started eating green peas. Two, after eating green peas, Baker made his first poopy in the bath tub! Needless to say, I was a bit panicked as Brad had just left to go to the store and I wasn't sure how to handle this situation. Thanks Shannon for giving me some advice! I simply took Baker out of the poop infested water, laid him on the living room floor, scooped the poop that I could out, and the rest had to go down the drain...yuck! No worries, I bleached it all out very good! I then proceeded with the bath. Whew! I'm sure that won't be the last time that happens but at least I'll be mentally prepared for it! Finally, Baker got a mesh feeder to chew on to help relieve his teething. A few friends suggested this and putting a piece of ice in it so after I finally found it, we gave it a whirl. I think he liked it!

After he pooped in the tub! I love that he's got that look of shock. I think he must be making the face that I was making at that moment!
Chewing on his mesh feeder. Notice the scratch on his face...he managed to scratch his face overnight despite wearing socks on his hands! I'm not sure how he did this through the sock but he managed. Poor little guy!

Looking very much alike!

Bleeker and Baby Food?

One thing Brad and I have learned during the introduction of solid foods to Baker is that Bleeker likes it too. During one of Baker's feedings of squash, Bleeker kept trying to lick the food off of Baker's face. Then when we weren't looking, he took Baker's bowl and licked it clean! I think Bleeker likes baby food too!

Sweet Pea

Well, Baker is officially a veggie eater now! A couple of days ago, we tried giving him peas and he loved them! We're guessing that he loved them seeing that there are never any left in the bowl after every feeding. So he now eats rice cereal, squash and peas...what a big boy! He is so funny with his little facial expressions the first time something goes into his mouth. He's very unsure of it but he never stops smacking it. So, we're hoping that he's gonna be a good veggie eater...so far so good! We took a video of his first tasting on Friday and while we were feeding him, we were doing a web cam call with Brad's family so if you hear lots of background talking, that's what it is! Enjoy watching our little sweet pea!

Recent Milestones

During the 4th month, Baker has made some developmental milestones. He eats his toes, started eating solid foods including rice cereal and squash, tries to hold his bottle and feed himself (not quite there yet but it can't be too far away), flips over from back to stomach and therefore sleeps on his stomach, is really making the effort to sit up (we have a way to go on that one), and has become a little inch warm. No longer can we place him on his back somewhere and expect him to stay there. Now, he rolls over to his belly and inches his way around the blanket like a worm. Sometimes, he'll simply roll from back to belly, belly to back, and so forth until he is completely off the blanket! I think we are getting very close to baby proofing the house!

I caught him munching away on his toes!
Baker kept rolling until he ended up off the blanket!
Attempting to sit up...just before he tumbled over!!
This Puppy Doesn't Stand a Chance!
During my crazed picture taking yesterday, I posed Baker with one of his stuffed animals and he couldn't keep his mouth off of it! He wanted nothing more but to take a big bite out of it. My camera was there ready to capture it. I thought, well, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! So, I captured the moment!
Taking a bite out of poor puppy's head!
This picture scares me a bit. Baker looks awfully vicious! Ha!
"Ah, now I got your ear!"
"Hmm, tasty."
"It's okay puppy. I still love you."
"But, I do love to pull on your ear!"
"Ha, that was fun! Watch out Bleeker!"

Baker Turns 5 Months Old!
It's so hard to believe that Baker turned 5 months old yesterday! I can't believe how fast time is flying by. When many of you warned us to enjoy him now because they grow up before you know it, you weren't kidding! Baker has filled our days and nights with complete happiness. We have been blessed with an unbelievably sweet, mellow, and happy baby who just goes with the flow and has been pretty easy going since we brought him home from the hospital. Of course, like all babies, he has his moments and lets us know real quick when he is unhappy. But we cannot complain...he's a charmer!
So, since it was another monthly birthday, I had his photoshoot in the same place as always, the nursery - on the bed, rocker, changing table and in a 12 month onesie (thanks Martha Stewart!). I am hoping that by the time he is 1 year old, I can compare all of my pictures of him doing the same things and see how much he's grown. You can too! Enjoy!
His changing table is getting shorter!
Looking very sweet with his Harrod's puppy. Thanks Jen! You need to come back to the States for another visit!!
His "Me? Cute? Ah, come on. Okay, I am pretty cute" face.
In his 12 month onesie...still growing into it! Let's see what it looks like at 6 months.

He's very seriously talking here.
So cute!!
Loving on his puppy.
Actually, I think he was wanting to eat it!

Baker the Flipster!

Ever since Baker first flipped over to his stomach a couple of weeks ago, he hasn't stopped. Every nap and overnight sleep is taken on his stomach now. Within minutes of laying him down, he flips right over. Needless to say, I am really having to work on my anxieties of SIDS and suffocation and just trust he is in God's hands. Baker is clearly very comfortable this way and friends constantly remind me that he wouldn't do it if he wasn't ready. He even sleeps much heavier than he did before, and for those of you that know him can testify to how well he slept! It's become such a normal routine that I forgot to take a video of him doing it, so today I thought of it and wanted to share it with everyone! Enjoy!

Baker's New Scruffy Voice!

So, lately, Baker has been making a new sound with his voice. It's become much deeper, a little scruffy and he just goes on and on making the same noise! All he wants to do now is lay on a blanket on his back and kick and talk (if that's what you call it!) very loudly. He seriously doesn't stop. So, enjoy the videos of our little mad man looking and sounding oh so tough!!
Baker's Veggie Tales

Yesterday, our little boy made his first step into big boy world! He had his first taste of veggies, squash to be exact, and boy did he love it! He really seemed to enjoy it and ate the entire bowl! Well, it was only a tablespoon but that's a lot of veggies for a baby that's never had it. His first taste of it was pretty cute...he just made a little face as if he was confused and then slowly started smacking it. After that, he was good to go! He had seemed to be losing interest in his rice cereal but I guess after 4 weeks of eating it, who wouldn't be? So this morning we added a touch of it to his cereal and he seemed much happier about that. He had another bowl of squash this afternoon and he still likes it, so we're very excited to have a positive change! After a week of this (we're playing it safe), we'll try some sweet peas, so stay tuned. The video below is of his first taste!

Hanging Out at Nana and Papa's! Bathtime
Baker's first bath in a real bathtub! He wasn't quite sure what to think of it.
Sitting in Brad's old rocking horse. How neat is that? I love how vintage it is!
Wearing his new flip flops for the first time. He wasn't so sure about them and wouldn't take his eyes off of them! He would attempt to pull them off and eventually started to eat them! But they were so cute on him...we couldn't stop laughing at how funny his little feet were in flip flops!
At the hotel on the trip back. We thought we'd let him go for a ride on Bleeker. Bleeker was so sweet to him, even when Baker started pulling his hair.
We decided that wasn't such a good idea afterall!
