1st Easter Egg Hunt!

This past Sunday, our church held their egg hunt for all the children, so of course, Brad and I were excited to take Baker. They provided McDonald's burgers, applesauce, and tons of cupcakes...a kid's favorite! Obviously, Baker had no idea what he was supposed to do when it came time to look for eggs, but with a little direction he managed to find one egg! Actually, since it took us a while to get to the eggs because he kept getting distracted by everything else, there weren't really any left. We found one plastic egg that had popped open so Brad put it together and laid it on the ground for Baker to "find". It was really cute because when he saw it, he bent down to pick it up. It was his only egg and poor thing, one of the other little kids took it from him! Ha! But another sweet mom gave him one of her kid's eggs, so he didn't go home empty handed! It was a beautiful day for an egg hunt and one that we will remember for sure! (There is a short video at the bottom of the post if you want to watch it.)

Such a great shot. Thank you Rebecca! Our camera battery died in the middle of all of the fun but friends took pics for us and emailed them to me. Thank God for friends!
I adore his sweet face in this picture! Thank you Carolyn for taking it!

He found a rock!

And a stick and would not let go of the water bottle in his hand.
"Look what I found!"
Taking a closer look.

So happy that he found one!

Baker tries to swipe something from Haley's basket!

So sweet. It looks like Haley is sharing!

Then Noah wanted in on the action. Baker is like "Dude, lay off my egg!"

Big boy happily walking through the park.

All I could think was "Please don't fall in the dirt because it had poured rain the day before!" I guess I better get used to dirty clothes!
Video: Baker toddles around the park. Please excuse my horrible voice. I always think that my accent is has faded...then I hear myself on video and I'm shocked at how country I sound!

Video of Baker and Noah at the Festival

This is just a snippet of our day out at the festival. The second portion of the video is of the music and you can somewhat see how interested they were in it. The two were literally frozen at one point just staring at them. They just looked like such big boys out there. The entire day was pretty impossible for us to keep up with them as they wanted to do their own thing and explore! Welcome to the toddler world I guess!

Cherry Blossom Festival

This week marked the start of the festival in DC and a celebration commemorating Japan's gift of cherry blossom trees to the US in 1912. Since the blooms were at their peak, we decided to have a picnic out at the tidal basin on Saturday. We had so much fun being out as a family! I can't wait for more beautiful weather so we can do this kind of stuff a lot more!

We took the metro into the District from Old Town. It was Baker's first time on DC's train system...sad that he's been on a NY subway several times but not in DC. Anyway, we had no idea how windy it was going to be until we got off the train. Wow, there were some crazy winds going on which made it so much colder than what it should have been! The temp was mid 60 but it felt so much colder and I was so not prepared or dressed for it! BTW, did you notice Baker's new Crocs? My sister-in-law just sent them to him and Brad and I just died laughing because of how small they were. It was hilarious to see his little feet in them. Baker absolutely loves them...he just smiled constantly the first few times we put them on him!

The Washington Monument looks beautiful surrounded by cherry blossoms.

Thankfully, Baker fell asleep on the stroll over there. We decided to go out that morning during his naptime and prayed that he would fall asleep. To our amazement, he did!

The Jefferson Memorial from across the tidal basin.

Brad and I take our own picture, very common for us! We like to do these a lot when we go out, for at least one shot!

A view of the cherry blossoms surrounding the entire tidal basin. Thank you Japan for such beautiful trees!

We met up with Carolyn, Noah, her mom who is visiting and her friend Cathy at the Jefferson Memorial. As sad as it is, it was our first time going to this memorial! I guess when you live in DC, you see all of these monuments all the time from the road but we just never made the trip to see it up close.

We set up the picnic and the boys immediately wanted to take off!

I love this picture. Baker has so much pep in his step as he strolls about!

Daddy and Baker go for a stroll.

Noah and Baker - I'm sure they are having some intense conversation about juice and bellies.

Yippee, freedom!

Cutie Noah goes out and about!

I loved Baker's sweet face in this one so I had to post it!

Daddy and his boy - Baker was really into his stick!

The typical family shot!

Some folks were out playing music at the park. They were handing out brochures about the 12 Tribes. This particular group was called the Peacemaker Marines. They are clearly some religious group and their music sounded very Jewish...really cool to listen to. Baker and Noah were fascinated from the start. We couldn't get the boys away from them. Baker kept going up to their instruments wanting to touch them. It's amazing to see how kids have a love for music at such young ages!

Baker and his stick. He carried this stick around with him everywhere he went!

Mmmm, what's in the picnic bag?

Playdate with Molly and Claire

Tuesday, Baker and I had a playdate with Molly and her little one, Claire at their house. Baker and Claire are always quite funny together but the older they get, the more interesting it becomes! We were joking around that with all of the little babbling noises they make, that Claire sounds like a little Asian doll and Baker sounds German. It's too cute to hear! Then, Molly made us a yummy lunch of chicken chowder (she knows I love it!) and we chatted about decorating...one of my favorite topics! We had lots of fun!

The day before - Baker was using the box inside the crib to reach up to the chest. He actually got his hands on the picture frames!

Busted! But then again, it didn't stop him from trying again!

Baker pointing to mommy's belly button. He loves this game!

Baker and Claire on a lunch date. They look like they are really enjoying the conversation.
Claire couldn't keep her hands off of Baker...she's so cute!
Always wanting to be close.
They look like they are playing a game of Leap Frog!

Baker is now sitting in the car facing the front like a big boy! He seems to enjoy car rides a lot more now. It's nice for us too because we can actually see him and talk to him. I like the feeling that he is actually a part of the ride now!

Afternoon at the Dog Park

Brad had to travel to NYC overnight on Monday, so I was in charge of taking Bleeker out for his afternoon walk. I took him and Baker to the dog run instead and he loved it! Anytime I've ever gone, there's never any dogs there but this time, there were probably a dozen. Bleeker ran in as if he owned the place and immediately stole one of the other dog's ball and never gave it back. It reminded of our days in NY when we used to take him to the dog runs all the time. Baker enjoyed it too and the dogs seemed to like him...they kept coming up to him and trying to lick his face. He'd just laugh it off. We had a great time!

Bleeker is ready to go!

When he first got there, all of the other dogs had to sniff him and check him out first!

Bleeker leaping and having so much fun...freedom! Poor thing never has anywhere to just run without always being on a leash.

With the ball that he stole.

When we got home, Baker thought he'd take Bleeker on a walk.
He loves the leash for some reason!

Spring in Old Town

Spring is definitely starting to show it's colors in DC. The cherry blossoms are already in full bloom and it's beautiful! The other day, we were out walking and took a couple of pics. Since Old Town is um, old, and full of history, there are often people dressed in gear from the colonial times, either getting ready to take tourists on tours or working the visitor's center. This guy had just left the center and while standing at the corner, Brad thought it would make a cool shot...so I snapped it and it's pretty darn cool! It looks like we've stepped back in time!

Colonial dude walking up to City Hall. I love how his cape is blowing in the wind.

The blossoms line N. Lee Street...so pretty. We're going to the Cherry Blossom Festival tomorrow so I'll post pics of that soon!
