America's Next Top Elf

We heard about a week earlier about this elf contest put on by Radio Disney at the top of the Hancock building and right away thought that would be so much fun!  So, not knowing anything about it, I went and bought some random stuff from Target to make a costume for Baker...everything from a little girl's dress, girl's t-shirt, women's socks (those are the tights he's wearing), gnome costume, crazy things from the dollar bin and pom poms.  Add a little glue and hemming tape and voila!  Baker absolutely loved it and was beyond happy to wear it.  Esp once I put the bells on his shoes and hat.

Every elf needs to carry a hammer.  We called him Tinker Elf.  :)

We didn't know what to expect when we got there, went up to the 94th floor, and he immediately ran to Santa.  Words can't describe the joy that was on his face and no picture or video I could take would ever capture it.
Giving Santa a kiss.  He said "I wuv you".
The little elf with Santa and Mrs. Claus, quite possibly the nicest Santa and Mrs. C we will ever meet.  They took all the time in the world with Baker, let us take all the pictures we wanted, danced with him, let us get in the sleigh, you name it.  It was probably one of the sweetest moments we've had with Baker seeing how happy this made him.
Right away, Baker told him he wanted a dump truck.  He had seen a garbage truck (which he is convinced is a dump truck) at the Lego store that he has been asking for ever since.
Mrs. Claus took this picture for us.
Love Santa in this picture.
So, we didn't know how many other kids to expect that would be dressed in costumes.  There weren't many, which was good for Baker as I think it kept him from being too overwhelmed.  There were a few that weren't in costume at all that also participated which was nice to see that they didn't turn anyone away.
Dancing with Santa...he was jumping up and down and having a ball.
Cleaning the windows of the Hancock...looks pretty realistic doesn't it?  :)

A little video of the events of the day.

When it came time for the costume catwalk, Baker was chomping at the bit to get on the carpet.  Luckily for him, he was first so he didn't have to wait but it stunk because he kept wanting to do it again and again.  When they called him up, he literally took off running down the carpet toward the stage and was going so fast, he slid under the DJ's table!  Lol!  Then he jumped up and ran to the end with a big fat grin on his face...
And ran back to the other end.  He was loving it!  He didn't win, or place for that matter, which was a little confusing since they gave the two runners up to kids that weren't dressed at all and just happened to show up the day of the contest but we didn't care.  Baker was the youngest there and I think it was more geared for a little older.  It was all about the experience for Baker and the memories we made with him.  He didn't have a clue it was a competition anyway and for us, we realized it's clearly not a costume contest.  We'll definitely make this an annual tradition for as long as they do it!
We celebrated with a little ice cream!

Quick picture at the top of the Hancock before it was time to go down!  What a view!
