Clemyjontri Park
Monday, Baker and I hit up the coolest playground ever...Clemyjontri Park! It's got to be one of greater DC's best kept secrets. Well, it's not much of a secret but it's fabulous. As described online, it's a place where kids with all abilities and disabilites can play and is totally wheelchair accessible. I love that about this place! All kids are welcome to just simply be kids. Since I can't really explain what this park is any better than their link online, I'll just post a bit from it below or you can also go to their site to read more about it.
Clemyjontri Park is an oasis, preserved in perpetuity for everyone to enjoy. The park is the dream of our benefactor Mrs. Adele Lebowitz, who envisioned this playground and park and generously donated this 18-acre property.
Mr. Lebowitz started Morton’s Department Stores in 1935 in Washington DC and ran those stores for more than 50 years. In the 1930’s and 40’s, two decades before the civil rights movement, the specter of segregation was very much a part of the Washington landscape. However, Mr. Lebowitz refused to conform to the racial practices of the day and was one of the first to fully integrate his stores for customers and staff alike. A very modest man, he was driven by a sense of fair play and justice. He joined the NAACP in 1942 and the Urban League in 1952, for which he served as President. As a civic leader, Mr. Lebowitz worked untiringly to improve the economic standard of the citizens of Washington DC. And on the lighter side, Morton’s was the first sponsor of a local kids TV show—the Pick Temple Show—in the 1950’s. Many local children had the opportunity to be on television through this program featuring Piccolo Pony and a clown named Bozo. That clown went on to great things and has brought joy to many people. His name is Willard Scott.
The name CLEMYJONTRI is derived from the donor’s four children: Carolyn (CL), Emily (EMY), John (Jon), and Petrina (Tri).
We had a great time with the friends we met for our playdate and Baker really seemed to enjoy it. I'm sure it won't be the last time we visit this place!!

Pondering what he should go play on first.
He is really getting good at going up and down stairs like a big boy these days. He'll hold on to the railing for dear life and walk up/down them. As for big stairs, like in our house, he still crawls up but he's definitely trying to do things differently now.
Micah and Baker play quietly together.
I tried to take lots of pictures to show the size of this park. You can see in the distance that the park goes on forever.
Baker pretty much led the way the whole time we were there.
This airplane was by far his favorite thing in the whole park. He wanted to stay on it forever.

These older boys joined him and were so sweet. You would have thought that they knew him. So, Baker just stared and smiled...here you can see he's giving them a wave.

How cute is this fire truck playground?

Amidst all of the exciting things to play on, he found a rock!
